Nuffield Research Placement students win special award

Two St Mary’s College students have won a special award at the Yorkshire and Humber Nuffield Research Placement awards for their research work while on placement at the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.

The Best Place to Work team hosted two students over the summer to work as part of the Nuffield Research Placements (NRP), they worked on a social science project to identify barriers to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds accessing virtual work experience, producing a report, and presenting their findings to the team.

The NRP programme provides engaging, hands-on research projects, where Year 12 students can make a meaningful contribution towards the work of a host organisation through a well-supervised but independent research collaboration relating to an area of science, quantitative social science, computing, technology, engineering or maths.
Jeevan Xavier said of his placement “The placement has been insightful and helped me realise that I am interested in career in medicine and research”.

Tina Jenkinson, Careers and Employability Manager at the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership said “The NRP programme has helped us to engage with, inspire and inform young people about working life in health and care. Opportunities like this are vital in enabling us to inspire and grow our future workforce”.
